CRANE'S WILL LIVE ON

As Maplewoodian first announced last week, Crane's pending closure was not for sure, and now owner Steve Crane has just released the following message:

Dear Crane's patrons,

I am glad to announce that Crane's Deli and Cheese Shoppe will remain open as we have reached an amicable agreement with our landlord. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind words and continued support. We look forward to seeing you in the future and remember to shop local and support the businesses that make Maplewood Village so special to each and everyone of us. Thank you and shop local.

Another reminder not to leave your car running in the driveway.

Also, another burglary and stolen jewels from the home.

SCHOOL REPORT CARD

The state school report card is out on each district, and each school.

Find SO-M HERE.

Among findings: the drop-out rate at CHS has jumped from 0.1% to 0.6%.

Our graduation rate still runs close to 99%, SAT scores beat the state average and nearly 70% of graduates go on to four-year colleges.

But, we still get only 7% of our school district revenue from the state, unlike the state average of  40%.

In comparison, Newark gets 81% of its school budget from the state, which means our taxes.

YALE ST. DOG POOP SCOFFLAW

The scandal on Yale Street these days is the person or persons not cleaning up after their dog.

Several residents say the dog doo bandit has left his or her dog's unwelcomed gift on several snow-covered lawns.

Whoever you are, knock it off.
