BROWNLEE CAMPAIGN CASH TOPPED $8,000

Marlon Brownlee, the newest member of the Township Committee, raised and spent around $8,500 on his campaign, according to disclosure reports filed last month.

Of that amount, some $3,450 of his budget came from other candidates or the Democratic party.

Brownlee, who won the Democratic primary unopposed for Township Committee, took the seat by handling beating Republican Bart Albini in November.

Albini, meanwhile, did not disclose if or how much money he raised or spent, filing a report indicating it would be less than $4,000.

Brownlee replaced Lester Lewis-Powder, who chose not to run for another term.

Reports filed with the state election enforcement commission on Dec. 20 revealed Brownlee raised 8,516.00 for his campaign, while spending $8,422.89.

Disclosure requirements allow candidates not to reveal contributions of $300 or less.

The most recent filing data disclosed that Brownlee had received a large share of his funding from Mayor Vic De Luca and TC member Fred Profeta.

De Luca donated $750 to the campaign, while Profeta dished out $1,000.

Andrew Harrison, a doctor from Lakewood, N.J., donated $1,000, while the Maplewood Democratic Committee did as well.

The campaign of Essex County Executive Joseph De Vincenzo gave another $700 to Brownlee’s campaign

The largest expenditures in the latest filing period were $2,647.58 for mailing and postage and $1117.39 for post card printing. He also spent about $400.00 on lawn signs.

Brownlee used Maplewood businesses for about half of his expenses.

Two notable expenses were a $35.00 overdraft fee and a $25.00 return check fee to Wachovia Bank.
