TC AIMS FOR BUDGET CUTS

PATCH has a great report on Saturday's first budget meeting of the Township Committee:

Maplewood's Township Committee members are aiming to bring in a 2011 budget than keeps any tax levy increase at or under the 2% state-mandated cap.
That might not sound like much of a stretch — after all, the 2% tax cap is now the law. But many items are exempted from that cap, meaning municipalities (and school boards) can still actually raise taxes at rates above 2%. And, according to Township administrative staff, the town is looking at an increase in costs of 3.6% for 2011.
